About BitGrail

BitGrail was an Italian cryptocurrency exchange operated by Francesco Firano. In February 2018 the exchange announced the loss of approximately 17 million Nano (XRB) — worth roughly $170M at the time — in what became one of the largest exchange hacks in crypto history. The incident triggered years of litigation between Firano and the Nano Foundation.

An Italian court ruled in 2019 that Firano was responsible for the loss and ordered restitution to creditors. The exchange ceased operations and the on-chain Bitcoin balance tracked here reflects historical addresses from the operating period.
