BitcoinTalk is the oldest and most historically significant Bitcoin community forum, created by Satoshi Nakamoto on November 22, 2009. Originally hosted at bitcoin.org/smf, the forum was the primary gathering place for early Bitcoin developers, miners, and enthusiasts. Many foundational moments in Bitcoin's history occurred on BitcoinTalk, including the first Bitcoin faucet, early mining discussions, and the famous 10,000 BTC pizza transaction by Laszlo Hanyecz in May 2010.

After Satoshi Nakamoto's departure from public communication in December 2010, administration of BitcoinTalk was taken over by a community member known as "theymos" (Michael Marquardt). The forum became the primary hub for cryptocurrency announcements, with nearly every major altcoin and ICO project launching through BitcoinTalk announcement threads during the 2013-2017 era.

The BTC attributed to BitcoinTalk represents Bitcoin held in forum-associated wallets, including funds used for forum operations and donations accumulated over the years. BitcoinTalk remains operational today as a piece of living Bitcoin history, though its influence has diminished as discussion moved to Reddit, Twitter, and other platforms.
