About Babylon

Babylon Labs is a blockchain protocol that enables Bitcoin staking without requiring BTC holders to bridge, wrap, or transfer their Bitcoin to another chain. Founded by David Tse, a Stanford University professor of electrical engineering, and Fisher Yu, Babylon allows Bitcoin holders to lock their BTC in self-custodial staking contracts on the Bitcoin blockchain itself, using the staked Bitcoin to provide economic security to proof-of-stake blockchains.

Babylon's staking protocol uses Bitcoin's native scripting capabilities to create time-locked staking transactions that can be cryptographically slashed if the staker acts maliciously on the secured PoS chain. This approach keeps Bitcoin on its native blockchain rather than wrapping or bridging it, addressing the security and counterparty risks that have plagued tokenized Bitcoin solutions. The protocol launched its mainnet staking in 2024 and attracted billions of dollars in Bitcoin deposits within its first phases.
